Overview
Ella, on the other hand, is a small town located about 100 kilometers to the southeast of Nuwara Eliya. Perched at an altitude of around 1,041 meters above sea level, Ella offers a slightly different experience from its cooler neighbor.
Ella enjoys a more moderate climate compared to Nuwara Eliya. While it can still get chilly in the evenings, the town generally experiences milder temperatures, ranging from 15°C to 28°C. This climate is ideal for outdoor activities and exploration.
Ella is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, which includes lush green valleys, dense forests, waterfalls, and breathtaking viewpoints. One of the most famous viewpoints in Ella is Ella Rock, which provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the iconic Ella Gap.
The most distinctive feature of Nuwara Eliya is its cool climate, earning it the reputation of being the coldest place in Sri Lanka. The town’s climate is influenced by its altitude and proximity to the Indian Ocean, resulting in average temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C throughout the year. This unique climate is perfect for growing vegetables and flowers, which has made the area famous for its lush gardens and tea plantations.
Nuwara Eliya is a hub for tea production in Sri Lanka. The town is surrounded by sprawling tea estates, and visitors can take guided tours to witness the tea-picking process and even sample some of the finest Ceylon tea. The picturesque landscapes with neatly manicured tea bushes, mist-covered hills, and charming colonial-era tea factories create a serene and captivating atmosphere.
Kandy, the last capital of the ancient kings of Sri Lanka, is a vibrant city located in the central region of the island. It’s known for its rich history, cultural significance, and natural beauty.
Ella is known for many attractions, of which we have selected the most interesting and visited by travelers from all over the world. You will see the Ravana waterfall shrouded in ancient legend, a hundred-year-old nine-arch bridge built by British colonists, and also climb the small peak of Adam, from the height of which you can enjoy magnificent views of the mountain ranges overgrown with greenery. Overnight at the hotel
Traveling by train has long been a must-have and highly desirable pastime for travelers in Sri Lanka. That is why, after breakfast at the hotel, we will go to the Demodara railway station in order to board the train and drive part of our way along the road, known for some of the most beautiful views from the window in the world. You will pass over the nine-arched bridge, which we examined from the "ground" the day before, as well as through a series of ancient tunnels. Plus, you'll enjoy stunning views of waterfalls and tea plantations. Arriving in Nuwara Eliya, we will visit the building of the island's oldest post office, as well as the former manor of one of the British governors of the island and the current Nuwara Eliya Grand Hotel. Then we will visit one of the oldest tea factories on the island, where you will see the tea production process and taste this invigorating and beloved drink. We will also admire the 107-meter Ramboda waterfall. Overnight at the hotel
