Yala Safari
Hindu Temple in Kataragama
Overview
The two most important sights of the southeast of the island are the oldest (created in the early 20th century) Yala National Park and the sacred temple in Kataragama. The tour is suitable for people interested in culture, religion, and traditions, and lovers of wildlife.
Yala is one of the oldest and largest nature reserves on the island. One of the pride of the reserve is the population of the endemic of Sri Lanka – the Ceylon leopard. Most often, it is these representatives of the animal world of the island that visitors to the park dream of seeing. In addition, wild elephants, buffaloes, deer, wild boars, bears, peacocks, crocodiles, and many other species of birds and reptiles live in the Yala reserve – who you are lucky enough to meet depends not only on the skill of the jeep driver but also on your luck. The duration of the safari is about 4 hours.
Next, you will go to the main temple of the city of Kataragama – a place of worship for Sri Lankan Buddhists and Hindus. According to legend, the Buddha during his third visit to the island meditated in this place, after which it became one of the 16 important places of pilgrimage in Sri Lanka. Also, the temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Skanda, and many believe that here you can get a blessing in solving any vital issues.
