Overview
Udawalawe, located in the southern part of Sri Lanka, is renowned for its exceptional natural beauty and its most prominent feature, the Udawalawe National Park. This park is a wildlife enthusiast’s dream, especially for those interested in observing elephants in their natural habitat. The Udawalawe National Park is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see these majestic creatures roaming freely. The expansive grasslands and water reservoirs within the park create a perfect environment for the elephants and numerous other wildlife species.
Visitors to Udawalawe can embark on thrilling jeep safaris that offer a chance to witness not only elephants but also an array of wildlife, including buffalo, deer, crocodiles, and a wide variety of bird species. The scenic landscapes of the park, with its rolling hills and lush vegetation, provide a picturesque backdrop for these incredible wildlife encounters.
Nuwara Eliya, often referred to as “Little England,” is a stunning hill station in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. It is celebrated for its lush tea plantations, temperate climate, and colonial architecture, which transport visitors to a bygone era.
The town of Nuwara Eliya is encircled by verdant tea estates that create a mesmerizing landscape. It is in these tea plantations that some of the world’s finest Ceylon tea is cultivated. Tourists can visit tea factories to witness the tea-making process and even indulge in tea tastings.
Nuwara Eliya’s climate is notably cooler than the rest of Sri Lanka, earning it the nickname “Little England.” This climate, combined with its charming gardens and colonial-style buildings, contributes to the town’s unique atmosphere. Victoria Park, in the heart of Nuwara Eliya, is a beautiful garden filled with vibrant flowers and is an excellent place for a leisurely stroll.
Our first day will begin with a visit to the Udawalawe Morning Safari. Then we will head to Mount Ella, and on the way we will see a Buduruwagala Temple and waterfalls shrouded in ancient legends—Ravana. Next, we will visit the famous nine-arch bridge and climb the small peak of Adam. Overnight at the hotel in Ella
After breakfast, we will arrive at Ella Railway station, board the train, and travel along part of one of the most beautiful railway routes in the world to Nanuoya station. Traveling by train has long been a must-have and highly desirable pastime for travelers in Sri Lanka. That is why, after breakfast at the hotel, we will go to the Ella railway station in order to board the train and drive part of our way along the road, known for some of the most beautiful views from the window in the world, which we examined from the "ground" the day before, as well as through a series of ancient tunnels. Plus, you'll enjoy stunning views of waterfalls and tea plantations. Arriving in Nuwara Eliya, we will visit the building of the island's oldest post office, as well as the former manor of one of the British governors of the island and the current Nuwara Eliya Grand Hotel. Then we will visit one of the oldest tea factories on the island, where you will see the tea production process and taste this invigorating and beloved drink. We will also visit the 107-meter Ramboda waterfall. The excursion day will end with a climb to the Ambuluwawa Tower. Although this attraction does not have any historical or cultural significance, it is located in the middle of a biosphere reserve and attracts the attention of hundreds of tourists who want to tickle their nerves. An external spiral staircase leads to the top of the snow-white 48-meter tower, and from this top, there is a dizzying view.
