Overview
Dambulla is a small town located in the central part of Sri Lanka. Its main claim to fame is the Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a complex of cave temples that are carved into a massive rock. These caves are adorned with stunning statues, intricate murals, and ancient artifacts, dating back over 2,000 years. The temple is not only a religious site but also a significant historical and artistic treasure.
Minneriya is a small town in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka, and it’s most famous for the Minneriya National Park. This park is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and is known for the “Gathering of the Elephants.” This incredible natural event occurs during the dry season when herds of elephants from the surrounding areas converge on the shores of the Minneriya Tank, a large reservoir, to graze and bathe. The sight of hundreds of elephants in one place is truly a remarkable experience and a must-see for anyone visiting Sri Lanka.
Kandy, the last capital of the ancient kings of Sri Lanka, is a vibrant city located in the central region of the island. It’s known for its rich history, cultural significance, and natural beauty.
At the beginning of our journey, we will visit one of the most famous attractions and the largest elephant nursery in Asia, Pinnawela, and then you will see the legendary cave temples dating back to the 1st century BC in the small town of Dambulla. They contain a huge and unique collection of frescoes depicting the biography of the Buddha's path. Overnight at the hotel
After breakfast at the hotel, we will go to conquer one of the two (your choice) rocks known to the guests of the island: the Sigiriya fortress or the Pidurangala rock monastery. The price includes a visit to Pidurangala. If you want to climb Sigiriya, then the difference in the cost of tickets +25$ per person is paid additionally (the cost calculation on this page has this option and allows you to correctly calculate the cost). Next, we will have an exciting safari in one of the national parks on the island, Minneriya Park. The park is best known for its large population of elephants. Leopards, wild buffaloes, deer, wild boars, bears, peacocks, crocodiles, and many other species of animals, birds, and reptiles also live in the park. At your request, a safari in Minneriya National Park can be replaced with an exciting eco-style adventure. Namely: riding a village cart drawn by a cow and a boat on the lake; visiting a Sri Lankan village and getting to know the village's way of life; and tasting national dishes and lunch in Sri Lankan style. During this tour, you will learn everything about the life of ordinary islanders, and get acquainted with the local culture and traditions. Overnight at the hotel
On the final excursion day, we will visit one of the main places of pilgrimage for Buddhists, the Temple of the Tooth Relic, the Ayurvedic garden, and the operating tea factory. Also, at your choice, we will visit the pride of Sri Lanka and one of the most beautiful gardens in Asia, the royal botanical garden of Peradeniya, or we will conquer the 48-meter Ambuluwawe tower, famous for its external spiral staircase and magnificent views for many kilometers around. The excursion is suitable for lovers of nature, animals, and outdoor walks, interested in culture, archeology, and religion.
